a gaze

I am really torn about which one I want to use....

here are the first glimpse of what is to come...

everyday is Halloween

So, I am a bit belated...unfortunately, it happens. The objective nonetheless is to continue to develop and explore the possibilities of working with clipping masks and the conscious creation of holes and absent/abstract forms.

I am a partial to my work with the tarot cards so I decided to continue in that vein of working. This time, I am 'pulling the camera out' and giving the viewer a little more disclosure on what was supposed from the first set of images. One can easily dream up scenes of an old gypsy laying out someone's future by candlelight. So why not? It is an idea rich with source imagery and mystique. Not to mention it is a perfect theme for the holiday season. tehe =]

I picked out the two tarot cards that are connected to my zodiac signs. I am a cusp baby so I needed one for Scorpio and one for Sagittarius. Scorpio correlates with the Death card and the Temperance card correlates with Sagittarius. Bother have connotations that pertain to certain aspects of the zodiac's personality type. They are the ones given the most focus, especially since they have conflicting reactions when drawn from the deck.

I am looking for type that somehow connects back to those reactions. This is all very up in the air, but I hope to focus it down with some working.

Think Think Think...

Self-Serving

The next project has to do with layering of text and images to create a new pattern, design, motif, etc. I think that for this series that I will use my personal tarot decks to help translate the concept of communication and interpretation by using items that naturally are interpreted through visual cues alone. Most people are familiar with the cards of the Major Arcana that have the most obvious connections to what they say visually. Example...most people flip out if I draw the Death card. However, that card doesn't possess such a literal translation. The attempt is to create a clarification, but giving a word that directly connects to the meaning of the card, but using the same card from another deck to use as the second image. The two cards look vastly different, though the mean the same thing, and yet, the one word that clarifies the two is lost between them.

Clientele

Well, what the hell...I thing that I'll continue to us the tarot motif and find some model to work with besides myself this time around. I still want to do something for Vivienne Westwood, but maybe I need to move on to someone else. Damnit....I may have to use myself again...

I have the strange thought of combining the idea of a magician playing card tricks. I have the top hat and tails, and i can fudge the drapery. I thing that this time I won't use a piece of her product line so litereally, but implay that it is something of her making. I'll find clothes that look similar enough to her wardrobe lines.

V. Westwood

Here is my attempt at an ad for Vivienne Westwood. Not much but better than nothing...

polarity

Here are six images that were created to show how sway the viewer into believing an opinion of someone else. These are both positive ans negative aspects.

Positive

This image is pretty straight forward. This was seen originally in a magazine but tracked down on the web. The woman is suppose to be a representation of the water's inherent purity. It is clean enough for the angels.

Most people are familiar with the art of Coop. He takes was is supposed to be negative and gives it a new glossing and appeal to that it becomes a positive. Here is the devil show as a sexy, tempting an voluptuous woman.

Peta is rather notorious for the shock value of its ads. This one was discovered via the Internet also. Here is another angelic figure who is beckoning the viewer to be like she is and do something to help one more helpless than herself.

Negative

This is one also found on the Internet. The woman shown was severely burned in a car crash. She is being used as a sort of object of pity. The hope it that whoever sees this would think twice about driving under the influence if their potential victim has a face.

This is pretty funny and sad at the same time. The kids can't be more than 8 years old tops and they look as though they weigh as much as some teenagers. This image is made to evoke disgust and outrage.

Another PETA ad that falls more in line with what most people are familiar with from them. How would someone react if a person walked up to the individual in the fur, hold that in their face???

personal propoganda

I decided for the class piece to create an ad for the designer Vivienne Westwood. It will be a simple piece designed to mimic a magazine ad that one would find in most fashion magazines. Sex sells so a little provocative flesh will be used to grab the viewers attention. Nothing over the top, but a little goes a long way. I'll either use on or two models, myself included. For my shots, I'll use my own necklace as the focal point of the image. The logo that is standard for her ads is the orb and her name usually positioned below it.

I know that an overlay will be incorporated with it, I just have to start working and see where it will land. This is all very much in the air.

Like most fashion companies, Westwood hopes to reach the chic, affluent, and intelligent members of every age group. Though her pieces are adopted more by those of the younger crowds, she is well received in most circles.

I desperately want to get a hold of a pair of rocking horse shoes to use so that I can make it a diptych. But if not I will survive, somehow. Barely....I so want a pair of those shoes. *_*

lust/rust

This week, I am charged with developing concepts for a personal heaven and personal hell...this is rather entertaining for the simple fact that there are so many things I desire and loathe that I find it difficult to par it down. I have a low tolerance for most things in existence around me that feed into an idea that I am already in the 2nd circle already. There are a few things in life that I ardently love and feel like my life would be less with out them. The hardest part is funneling these things down from ethereal notions to tangible concepts.

So now what?

Firstly, what do I love?

  • dancing
  • singing
  • writing
  • black
  • photography
  • music
  • victorian houses
  • chocolate <3
  • satin
  • birds
  • french fries
  • stars
  • Vivienne Westwood
  • boots
  • high heeled shoes
  • corsets
  • oranges
  • apples
  • driving
  • winter
  • rabbits
  • barren trees
  • harpsicord =)
  • ragdolls
  • rain
  • books
  • poetry
  • grey skies
  • make-up
  • blah blah blah

And hate?

  • cockroaches (gag!)
  • headaches
  • broken nails
  • know-it-alls
  • suffocation
  • blindness
  • trashiness
  • extreme heights
  • obliviousness
  • abusive men
  • vacant women
  • blind prejudice
  • placation
  • rope burn
  • self-nudity
  • stabbing pains
  • avoidance

So...yeah. The biggest things off the lists are my love for the dark, old things, tastes, textures, and mental expression on the love side and a hate/fear of exposure, loneliness, some forms of pain, extremes in situations and oblivion in many forms.

This is not going to be easy....
